WEEK 1

 
Aug. 17 - 21
  1. A Moment to myself
    1. This class is about you.
    2. You will have the opportunity to learn about yourself and to experiment with things to see how they effect you and others.
    3. The Artists job is to explore life and share it with others.
    4. Think about the most enjoyable thing you did this summer.
    5. Before we move on write down what you were thinking about on the form provided.
      1. Mon. -The best thing that happened to you last summer.
      2. The Rest of the Week - Something good that happened to you since the last class.
    6. Mon. - This class is about you.

  2. Tues - Each week you need to come up with one shot, ready for mounting.
    1. For most final shots there should be a min. of 3 other shots taken in a somewhat or very different way.
    2. You should have at least 20 shots a week.
  3. Tues - Fill out Info Card and turn in to Mr. D
  4. Group Discussions and work
    1. Tues - Way are you in this class?
    2. Tues - Why do you take pictures?
    3. Tues - What makes one photo better than another?
    4. Tues - What do you like to take pictures of most?
    5. What would you like to learn in this class?
    6. Create a short group video presentation on how to use your camera and the differences between different cameras.
  5. PHOTO ASSIGNMENT - WED. - Create an image of you that shows what right and left brain qualities you like best, not so much, and not at all.
  6. PHOTO ASSIGNMENT - Begin WED. - Look at the Right and Left brain photography book and pick one right brain assignment and one left brain assignment for the group. Everyone will be responsible for their own photo for the assignments.
  7. THURS. - - Go to this Web site.
    1. Pick a photo you really really like.
      1. Write what attracts you to this photo.
      2. Write down what you think is the strongest element in this photo.
    2. Read about Emotion vs Intellect "Discovering Art History' Pages 66-69.
      1. Discuss with your pardner and with the class what you think are qualities of Emotional and Intellectual works of Art.
      2. Which one do you think you gravitate to more?
        1. What things of that kind do you most like?
      3. Where do you think your picture falls in these catagories?
        1. What are the specific things that make you think that?
  8. Prepare your Server Folder
    1. You should have a folder with your name on it
    2. Inside that folder you should have a:
      1. Breadth folder
      2. Concentration folder
      3. Summer work folder
      4. Old work folder
      5. New work folder
    3. Place all of your work in the approprate folders.
      1. Pick your best 12 photos and put a COPY in the Breadth folder.
      2. If you have focused on a given subject or idea etc. Place up to 12 photos of the same kind in the Concentration folder.

Aug. 24 - 28

  2. EveryDay - A Moment to myself
    1. Mon. Paying attention to sound.
    2. Tues through Fri. Paying attention to your breath.
      1. Finding your anchor.
    3. In your journal, list any emotions you remember having in the past 24 hours. Yhey do not have to be strong and they do not have to be negative. Just anything you remember about the past 24 hours. Also write if you cannot remember. This is an exercise in paying attention to how we are feeling. Then pay attentions until the next class to any emotions that arise. Write them down over the next 24 hours.
  3. HOMEWORK - In your journal, list things that attract your attention both visually and emotionally. Try to pay attention moment to monent though out the day and evening. Pay attention especially when you are outside of school, but don't ignore what interests you in school. The smallest, simplest thing is fair game. All emotions are fair game but be sure to indicate what triggered the emotion.
  4. This week you need to come up with 2 shots, ready for mounting. See Assignments 5 and 6.

    2. Make a Right and Left brain Photo like to do List. and mark the ones you like best.
    3. Write down the things to work on for both Right and Left brain photographers and Mark the ones you think you would like to work on.
    4. List things that make you happy every day.
      1. At least 3/day.
      2. Why did it make your happy?
      3. How did your body feel?
    5. FRI. - List things that catches your attention during each day.
      1. How did it make you feel?
      2. What did you observe about what ever caught your attention?
    6. FRI. - Create a Photo Tool Chest.
      1. Include the Design Principles below.
      2. Include the 4 Compositional techniques.
      3. Think about the other things you have learned about the choices you have when you take a photo and include those in your Photo Tool Chest list.
  9. Review AP grading
  10. Assess you Portfolio based on these Design Principles:
    1. Unity/Variety
    2. Balance/Emphasis/Contrast
    3. Rhythm
    4. Repetition
    5. Proportion/Scale
    6. Figure/Ground Relationships

      4. 2 Show quality Photos ready to be printed. These will be breadth photos.
      5. Take photos of something you like. When you get it PhotoShopped show me. Be sure you know why you took the picture and what you were trying to show other people and how they meet the AP grading standards.

      3. Read Photographing a Relationship pg 92 and see what kind of photographs you can come up with from that.

Sept. 14 - 18
  1. MON. Early Dismissal.
  2. WED. SEPT. 16 - INTERIM PERIOD ENDS.

  4. DUE FRI. SEPT. 25th - What you need in the WEEK 5 Grading folder:
    1. 20 photos
    2. Your best two photos ready to print.
    3. Take 15 min. walk with your camera.
      1. Pay attention to EVERYTHING that catches your attention and take one picture of it.
      2. Upload your pictures and arrange them NOT in order of best to worst but in order of most interesting subject to you to least interesting.
      3. Take the top 5 and write down what it is that is interesting to you.
        1. Make a second list as to what other things could also have similar things about them.
      4. Show your Pictures and lists to Mr. D.
    4. Some photos of the following
      1. Portraits with different ways of accentuating the eyes with visual tension.
      2. Portraits with low key dramatic lighting and unusual and interesting composition.

  1. Wed. Early Dismissal.
  2. Look at the design principles and what the AP grades on.
    1. Compare the two lists.
    2. Evaluate your best picture based on these principles.
  3. DUE FRI. SEPT. 25th - What you need in the WEEK 5 Grading folder:
    1. 20 photos
    2. Your best two photos ready to print.
    3. Take 15 min. walk with your camera.
      1. Pay attention to EVERYTHING that catches your attention and take one picture of it.
      2. Upload your pictures and arrange them NOT in order of best to worst but in order of most interesting subject to you to least interesting.
      3. Take the top 5 and write down what it is that is interesting to you.

  2. END OF FIRST QUARTER.
  3. MUST HAVE YOUR BEST 5 WORKS IN THE GRADING FOLDER ON THE SERVER BY THE END OF THE PERIOD FRI. OCT. 16th.
